Gold-loaded microgels

Recent results show that gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) can be included into microgels (MGs). UV-visible spectra (Figure 1) suggest the original Au-NP sols retain their size and stability after incorporation into the microgels. Understanding the physicochemical properties of these versatile and multifunctional Au-microgel composites could lead interesting applications, such as reusable and recoverable catalyst supports. The objective is to employ SANS to study microgel polymer structure after incorporation of the Au-NPs. Neutron scattering is the best method available to interrogate the organic microgel polymers in the presence of embedded Au-NPs.
