Study of the interaction of various LPSs with Lactoferrin.

DOI

Proposal is focused on the study of the interactions of some lypopolysaccharides (LPSs) with Lactoferrin. LPSs compose about 70-80% of the outer membrane of Gram negative bacteria and are the main responsible for bacterial pathogenicity. When LPS is removed from the bacteria it may interact strongly with immune-competent cells such as mononuclear cells. Since this interaction can lead to beneficial reactions, its study can throw light upon new strategies for accelerating the bacterium death. There is a variety of endogenous LPS-binding proteins. To this class belong Hemoglobin (Hb) and Lactoferrin (LF). This latter has been chosen for the present investigation.
