We intend to use small angle neutron scattering to investigate the conformational behaviour of a range of amphiphilic copolymers comprising a hydrophobic methacrylate segment with a hydrophilic segment of poly(acrylic acid). These copolymers possess a range of architectures, namely block, graft and hyperbranched structures. The length of the alkyl chain of the methacrylate segment will be varied to alter the hydrophobicity of this portion of the polymer. We aim to examine the conformation adopted by these polymers in dilute solution. Investigating the solution behaviour of the materials is important in order to understand the balance between good solvation and the ability of the material to adsorb at a surface.
