Polymer-surfactant films containing glucose sensors and structure directing polymers

DOI

This proposal continues our research on mesostructured surfactant templated polymer films. The films are robust and form spontaneously at the air-water interface. Recent research have shown that it is possible to form these surfactant templated films using biocompatible polymers, therefore we have incorporated glucose sensing functionality by incorporating phenylboronic acid to the polymer backbone. Whilst phenylboronic acid has been incorporated into one polymer species, the other polymeric species have been chosen due to their electrostatic architecture and it is thought that their interaction with the ionic micelle surfaces directs the surfactant-polymer film mesostructure. We aim to determine if this is indeed the case as these mixed polymer films may provide a route towards glucose sensing mesostructured films with controllable properties.
