An investigation on the adsorption of reverse pluronic and additives on metal surface

DOI

PPO-PEO-PPO copolymer-based lubricant with extreme pressure or friction modifier additives has been introduced as boundary lubricant in metal forming. The Pluronic reverse copolymer PPO-PEO-PPO and the additives must be adsorbed on the metal surface to enhance lubricating performance. The adsorption process and sequences of the polymer and additives on solid surfaces are significantly influenced by the concentration, structure of copolymer and the interactions of copolymer, additives, substrate and solvent. When the substrate surface is hydrophobic, the PPO chains play the role of anchoring on the substrate, while the PEO chains extend into the solvent phase. The project aims to classify the structure of absorbed polymer and additives, and to investigate the degree of adsorption affinity of polymer and additives to the metal surface.
