For deionised, charge stabilised latices, there has been some uncertainty about the stacking sequence of close packed layers in samples at equilibrium. The ABCA stacking in cubic close packing is difficult to distinguish from ABAB stacking of a hexagonal close packed structure. The relative intensities of different peaks help in resolving this problem. However it is indeed possible that there are stacking faults and these possibilities can only be distinguished by measurements made with sample rotation about defined crystal axes. Studies of an aligned single crystal prepared by flow and of its melting under flow will be made.
