Swiss Preferences for Candidates with Different Class Profiles

DOI

Relying on experimental as well as observational methods, the project sought to assess the importance of alternative explanations of why it is that most members of parliament are vastly better off than the citizens they represents: (1) voters prefer affluent legislators; (2) parties prefer to nominate candidates who are better off; and (3) less affluent citizens are more reluctant than affluent citizens to run for public office.
