The data was recorded using a positive and negative awe recall assignments, as well as 360 VR video available on Youtube. Questionnaire data includes demographics, Dispositional Positive Emotions Scale for awe, Trait Respect Related Emotions Scale for awe, the recall assignments for positive and negative awe, emotion ratings, the Awe Experience Scale, the Ego Dissolution Inventory, Agency and Presence questions.
Demographics questions, and Dispositional and Trait questionnaires were administered before any other assignment. The recall assignments and questionnaires belonging to these were administered in counterbalanced order for positive and negative valence. The recall assignment always preceded the 360 degrees video assignments to avoid priming effects. A practice video containing imagery of rabbits was played in between these two assignment types. The 360 video experiences and questionnaires were counterbalanced for positive and negative awe as well. The positive video showed a balloon flight to the edge of space, and the negative video showed a tornado. Videos were viewed on participants’ own mobile phones through Google Cardboard headsets to ensure 3D representation. No sound was played.
