We want to study the microscopic mechanisms of solvent dynamics such as water and glycerol in ahydrophilic polymer. Dielectric measurements suggest that below the glass transition temperature(Tg) of the mixture water dynamics are confined in the polymer solution, while above Tg,cooperative-like dynamics are observed. The Quasi-Elastic Neutron Scattering (QENS) experimentsproposed here (selective to the component dynamics via deuterium labeling) will provide valuablespatial information to characterize and further understand the polymer and solvent dynamics. The objective of this proposal is to study the picosecond time scale dynamics for solutions ofsolvent-polymer mixtures. In order to separate the relative contributions of both, polymer andsolvent, isotopic labeling will be exploited by using deuterated solvent and polymer, respectively.
