Injection-Molding Production Data with Quality Labels

DOI

The data was collected during the research project "ProBayes" conducted by SKZ (German Plastics Center) and Fraunhofer IPA in 2021/2022. An injection molding machine (KraussMaffei 160-750PX) was equipped with peripheral devices (such as Temperature Control, Dosing unit, Dryer) and quality control devices (such as Computer Vision, Scale and Infrared-Camera. The part manufactured with the injection molding machine is called 'warpage shell' (~ Verzugsschale) and is used for research only. The part was produced with two different materials, polypropylene (PP) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), the latter containing 70% recyclate, and with a variation of set parameters (Design of Experiment). The data from all different data sources were combined into one PARQUET file, where each row holds the data of one part / cycle. Each part can be identified using the unique MachineCycleID.

Hard facts: - 564 injection molded parts (47 experimental points with 12 produced parts each) - 2 different materials (PP and ABS) - 334 features from 9 different datasources

Check out the data_description.pdf for additional information.

A Design of Experiment (DoE) was conducted for two materials each, by varying four set parameters with two different stages. Together with the central point everything sums up to 17 experimental points ((2 stages ^ 4 parameters) + 1 central point = 17 experimental points). Additionally, another Design of Experiment was carried out by following a Taguchi plan with 13 different set parameter combinations. This sums up to 47 experimental points. These set parameters were varied during DoE: - Cylinder Temperature - Mold Temperature - Injection Speed - Holding Pressure

All produced parts were manually inspected and classified into OK / NOK and some other labels, which you will find in the data_description.pdf

Project 21815N of the research association „Fördergemeinschaft für das Süddeutsche Kunststoff-Zentrum e. V.“ and the "Fraunhofer IPA" was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) via the Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) within the framework of the programme for the promotion of joint industrial research on the basis of a resolution of the German Bundestag. The authors would like to thank the funding body for providing the financial resources and all the members of the project-accompanying committee for their active cooperation in the research project.
