Magnetic self-aggregating ionic liquids (MSAILs)

DOI

This proposal is to explore aqueous phase structures with a new class of magnetic self-aggregating ionic liquids (MSAILs) (see Figures 2 and 3 below). The dilute micellar properties of inert long chain imidazolium based ionic liquids have already been studied using SANS.[e.g. 1, 2] The new class of MSAILs investigated here are of great interest as they are also expected to exhibit amphiphilic behavior, but most importantly be magnetically active. Hence, they have novel potential applications, allowing non-invasive recovery of ILs from reaction mixtures, facile separations and targeted delivery.
