Calculating the global plastic footprint: application to four case studies

DOI

This Excel spreadsheet outlines the calculation method for the global Plastic Particle Footprint (PPF) across four case studies. The hypotheses used for the calculations are specified. The PPF refers to the total mass of plastic particles, particularly microplastics (less than 5 mm in size) and nanoplastics (less than 1 µm), that have been released, or are expected to be released one day, into the environment by a plastic item.
