This study contains two phases. Phase 1 was aimed at assessing the incidence and nature of voluntary work and informal aid in the Dutch population. The second phase consisted of an in depth survey of the respondents who reported to be engaged in these activities in phase 1. The second phase had different questionnaires for organized and non-organized helpers or volunteers. P1017A: Time spend on unpaid work / type of organizations connected with / frequency of unpaid work / help / aid / assistance given to whom / helping persons in own household. P1017B: Paid versus unpaid work / religious background / political background / target persons of help / kind of help or assistance given / detailed data on family situation / relation with and backing of help organizations / relations with other helpers / payment for expenses / tax deduction / guidance needed / expectations / ( change in ) motives / looking for paid job in this field / case history / wish to stop / pro's and con's / problems / general evaluation of activities / domestic work / gender roles / loneliness.
