Surfactants at the metal-oil interface

DOI

The lubrication of surfaces by oils is a key aspect of many academic and industrial problems with significant financial implications. We would like to study, for the first time using neutron reflectometery the adsorption of two typical surfactants additives used in lubrication at the interface between oxidized metal films and aliphatic hydrocarbons. This study is important as part of a larger study into understanding the role of adsorbed surfactants and anti-wear inhibitors used in lubrication industry.
