We propose to study the spin wave excitations of nonsuperconducting single crystal Pr0.88LaCe0.12CuO4 (PLCCO). Previous experiments on superconducting PLCCO have shown that spin excitations are broad at low-energy and spin-wave-like at high energies with an exchange coupling larger than that of its parent compound Pr2CuO4 (PCO). At present, it is unclear whether the larger exchange coupling at high energies of superconducting PLCCO is also intrinsic to the nonsuperconducting PLCCO. We therefore propose to investigate spin wave excitations as as-grown nonsuperconducting PLCCO in order to understand the evolution of spin waves as electrons are doped on the CuO2 planes.
