Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolated from pet lemur

We confirmed Mycobacterium tuberculosis in an illegal wild-captured pet ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) presenting with lethargy, anorexia and cervical lymphadenopathy. Whole genome sequencing revealed a lineage 3 M. tuberculosis isolate with antimicrobial resistance (streptomycin). We advocate for prevention of zooanthroponoses and determining if lemurs are potential maintenance hosts.
