Metagenome isolated from a hydrothermal vent

This project studied microbial metabolism and ecotype differentiation in the carbonate chimneys at the Lost City Hydrothermal Field, which are bathed in high temperature (>90°C) and high alkaline fluids (pH to 11), a combination of extreme conditions never before seen in the marine environment.
