Wave Tank Testing of Wave Loads on Stationary Tidal Turbines Database

DOI

The aim of the testing were to conduct the hydrodynamic analysis of stationary tidal turbines and evaluate the fatigue loadings on turbines and the blockage effect under wave conditions.  In this database, the hydrodynamic loadings due to wave loading on the tidal turbine and blockage effects at different depths below to still water level (SWL) under various wave conditions have been systematically recorded. Then it was expanded to a twin turbine, where the results of hydrodynamic loadings on a twin turbine and  single turbine are recorded. And the twin turbine with different orientation angles is also studied to investigate turbine array interactions.  This research can help improve the fatigue design of tidal turbines and support the development of tidal energy and, in the long run, help society transition to sustainable energy consumption.
