Structural Phase Diagram of the new Multiferroic Hexagonal YbFeO3

DOI

This experiment aims to map out the structural phase diagram of the new multiferroic compound hexagonal-YbFeO3 as a function of temperature, both above and below room temperature. Particular features to be understood are (i) the structural nature of an observed dielectric anomaly at around 160 K (ii) the presence and nature of any long-range magnetic ordering below this temperature (iii) the precise nature of an apparent symmetry lowering from hexagonal at room temperature (iv) the evolution of this symmetry above room temperature as a comparison to the well-studied analogue YMnO3, and also to establish the nature of the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition.
