These data enable us to give a nationally-representative picture of the school leaver with Scottish Certificate of Education Higher grade qualifications (SCE H grade) at three points in time - in 1962, 1970 and in 1972. The dataset is constructed from three separate surveys and comprises just under 400 variables. Included is not only raw data, such as, for example, the record of each SCE attempt in each year, but also a large number of variables that have been systematically derived from the raw variables. There are for instance, a series of measures that express the subject curriculum of each school-leaver's course and qualifications in a variety of ways. Other areas which have been covered include family background, school, geographical location and post-school destination.

Main Topics:

Type of school, education district and region of school, post-school destination, individual subject grades at higher level, subject content of course and qualifications. Achievement at ordinary, higher and advanced levels. Background Variables Age, sex, date of birth, father's occupation (Registrar General's classification).

Total in 1962, random in 1970 and 1972
