Neutron scattering study of spin-reorientation phase transition in multiferroic SmCrO3

DOI

The spin-reorientation phase transition (SRPT) is an interesting phenomenon observed in rare-earth chromates. The test run scattering experiments done using high-resolution, high-flux WISH beamline approve its suitability for studying SmCrO3. We would carry out low-temperature TOF neutron scattering experiments on SmCrO3 on WISH. Since we also plan to probe the nature of the SRPT, the TOF experiment will be carried out several selected temperatures, from 290 K down to 10 K, across the canted AFM and SRPT, both during cooling and heating runs. If the nature of SRPT happen to be 1st order, the intensities of the magnetic peaks, recorded during cooling and heating in between 25 to 190K, will be different and if it is 2nd order then the intensities will be the same.
