The data set contains the description of modern seafloor sediment samples (n=51) from the Spermonde Archipelago, SW Sulawesi, Indonesia. The following parameters were determined: grain size distribution (statistically evaluated after Blott & Pye, 2001), content of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with the method by Müller & Gastner (1971), content of total organic carbon (TOC), skeletal and non-skeletal sediment components, benthic foraminifera assemblages. The field sampling was performed in August 2021 in the framework of the HAnsea project, sample depths range from 4.5 to 73.6 m water depth. Data collection was done between June 2023 and April 2024.The data was obtained to describe the sediment facies of the tropical, land-attached carbonate platform. Based on the textural and compositional, we inferred (1) nearshore-offshore gradients in the sediment distribution, (2) a general, shelf-wide facies pattern and (3) assessed the ecological conditions, based on the FoRAM Index based on Hallock et al. (2003) with modifications from Prazeres et al. (2020).
