Magnetic and Structural Studies on Oxychalcogenides

In this proposal we request 3 days of beam time on HRPD to study the structures (both atomic and magnetic) of a variety of oxychalcogenide phases: La2O2Se2Fe2O, Ce2O2Se2Mn and Bi2YO4Cu2¿xMxSe2. For La2O2Se2Fe2O we wish to study the magnetic order in the unusual Fe2O layers and the possible distortion of these layers from planarity at low temperature. For Ce2O2Se2Mn we wish to investigate the magnetic structure at low temperature. For transition metal doped Bi2YO4Cu2¿xMxSe2 materials we wish to establish the transition metal site adopted and potential magnetic ordering at low temperature.
