Planktonic foraminifera shell counts and weights from Labrador Sea in the upper part of sediment cores HU2008-029-004TWC, HU91-045-93BX and MD99-2227

DOI

Counts of planktonic foraminifera shells in the upper samples of three sediment cores from the Labrador Sea: HU2008-029-004TWC, HU91-045-93BX and MD99-2227. Foraminifera shells were counted in a varying split of each sample, as indicated. Moreover, average species-specific weights were determined in some of the sample, as well as average shell weights of all species in each sample. Shell weight measurements were conducted with a Sartorius XM1000P micro balance (nominal resolution of 1 µg). The indicated ages of the depth intervals are mostly from published data. The two d14C dates of sediment core HU91-045-93BX were measured with the Mini Carbon Dating System (MICADAS) at the Alfred-Wegener-Institute Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research. Shell counts and weight measurements were conducted to calculate the (mass) accumulation rates of planktonic foraminifera in the recent sediment samples.

Measurements were conducted at the Université du Québéc à Montréal (UQAM) in the GEOTOP research center, which is supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et Technologies (FRQNT).
