Magnetic structure of beta-MnRu

DOI

We have recently succeeded in isolating single crystals of Beta-MnRu, which we know propose to study using the WISH diffractometer. Previous powder measurements of beta-MnRu with Ru concentrations of greater than 12 at.% have revealed a long-range ordered incommensurate antiferromagnetic ground state at temperatures below TN ~ 130 K. The propagation vector is of the form k = (qqq), q=0.278. Both the Neel temperature and the propagation vector are remarkably robust with respect to increasing Ru concentration between 12 and 19 at%. We propose to verify the proposed magnetic structure based on our previous powder data, using single crystal diffraction on WISH. The crystals are small (~1mg) and so the large flux at large d-spacings of WISH make this the ideal instrument for this experiment.
