With appropriate storage materials, ammonia has great potential as a fuel. We propose to use a novel piece of equipment, which combines microwave and neutron diffraction analysis, to examine the uptake of ammonia by microporous metal-organic frameworks. This unique analytical combination will allow us to study both the structural changes of the materials and the dynamics of ammonia sorption/desorption, which will shed great insight onto desirable design features to improve storage capacities and refueling speeds.
