Amide monolayers at the polymer melt air interface

DOI

This proposal seeks to identify and characterise the adsorption of primary linear amides that adsorb to the surface from the bulk of a polymer melt. These layers are particularly interesting industrially as anti-slip agents. More significantly, our preliminary academic work has also suggested particularly unusual molecular films formed by these amides with considerably higher stability than any others we have investigated. However, to detail the amount adsorbed and provide in situ structural information only neutron reflection can provide the answers.
