Understanding the role of lanthanides in magnetic oxyselenides: Pr2O2Fe2OSe2

DOI

This proposal requests time to investigate the influence of an applied magnetic field on the oxyselenide Pr2O2Fe2OSe2. A metamagnetic transition involving ordering of Pr3+ moments has been proposed in the literature, but the ordering of these Pr3+ moments has yet to be fully investigated. In addition, we have observed a subtle structural distortion at low temperatures which may be influenced by the magnetic environment of Pr3+ sites. We hope that by collecting NPD data on the WISH diffractometer in an applied magnetic field, we will be able to investigate the proposed metamagnetic transition and the field-dependence of the structural distortion.
