This proposal is part of an ongoing project to relate the magnetic excitations to other electronic properties of the cuprate superconductors. We have recently proposed that the temperature dependence of the magnetic excitations in underdoped La2-xSrxCuO4 can be understood in terms of the formation of a 'pseudogap' at low temperatures. Here we propose to investigate the temperature dependence of the response at optimal doping. We believe that we will be able to observe the last vestiges of the pseudogap behaviour. We will use the MAPS spectrometer to map of the excitations over a wide range of wavevector and energy for two additional temperatures.
