Microprobe analyses of orthopyroxene from eclogite and pyroxenite xenoliths, Kaapvaal Craton and Rehoboth Terrane

DOI

For classification of the minerals and to clarify the geological evolution of the samples major ele-ments of clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene, and olivine (given as oxides in wt.%) were determined by electron microprobe analyses (Acceleration voltage: 15 kV, Beam current: 15 nA, Measuring time for sample and background, respectively: 20 seconds). For calibration silicate and oxide standards were used. The analytical error of the obtained data is 0.3–1.0 % (relative) for element concentra-tions >10 wt.%. For oxide contents of 1–10 % and 5 % (relative), respectively. The measurements were performed at the Universität Erlangen (Germany), GeoZentrum Nordbay-ern, between 2012 and 2025. Electron microprobe. JEOL 8200 with five wavelength-dispersive spectrometers. 15 kV acceleration voltage, 15 nA beam current, 20 seconds counting time, silicate and oxide standards for calibration
