CTD and ADCP hydrothermal plume data from the MomarSat 2023 cruise

DOI

This dataset contains measurement profiles for 3D velocity, temperature, pressure, and salinity collected above the Tour Eiffel sulfide structure at the Lucky Strike hydrothermal site, as well as in areas distant from the vents field. The data was acquired with an ultra-short baseline (USBL) acoustic positioning system, an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP Aquadopp V2.00.02), and a Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD Sea-Bird SBE 19plus) sonde. An overview of the experimental setup is provided. The CTD instrument was calibrated in October 2021, and the calibration coefficients can be found in a .xmlcon file. The primary objective of this experiment was to measure the characteristics of the hydrothermal plume during the MomarSat 2023 Cruise. Acquisitions were conducted intermittently over a span of 4 days, with a maximum vertical resolution of O(10 m). The data is available in .cnv and .csv file formats, for compatibility with the pandas library in Python. USBL data was filtered to retain only the temporal positions (degrees and decimal minutes format). Basic post-processing of CTD data was performed using Seasave V 7.23.1. Data acquisition was conducted in successive vertical steps to align with the ADCP acquisition frequency, and ADCP data was filtered to keep only the fixed positions.
