Carbon and nitrogen lateral fluxes at Kytalyk research site (NE Russia) - year 2012

DOI

Measurements of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), nitrogen (DON) concentrations and water discharge at the outlet of the water catchment comprising the Kytalyk research station in North Eastern Russia (70.828845 N: 147.492320 E). Water samples were collected from June to August 2012 on a regular basis (every 2 days on average) and analyzed by Elemental Analyzer. Water discharge was measured by bucket method using a weir with a V notch to channel the stream flow. In case of diffuse overland flow, which occurred on June 15, the discharge was assessed on the basis of the measurements of the water flow speed and of the cross section of the water channels. Daily water discharge, DOC and DON fluxes are provided assuming the measured water flow rates as constant during each respective day. The area of the catchment was estimated in 0.99513 square km through the visual interpretation of a high resolution satellite image (GeoEye) combined with ground truth knowledge.
