16S rRNA amplicon gene sequences from bacterial communities associated with five colonies of the coral Acropora loripes collected from the Great Barrier Reef. Four locations across each colony were sampled in five replicates to determine the spatial variation of bacterial communities. Additional samples were taken after corals were brought in aquaria to characterize how bacterial communities vary in time once corals are reared in captivity.
