(Appendix I) Stable isotope measurements of benthic and planktonic foraminifera in sediment core MD99-2269

DOI

Isotopic analysis was performed at the Leibniz-Laboratory for radiometric dating and stable isotope research at Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany using a Finnigan MAT 251 mass spectrometer with an on-line coupled Kiel Carbon device. First 13 columns are raw data as reported from the Kiel laboratory, samples with warnings and/or remarks are " shown with full remarks at the end of this Appendix. The ± errors in the data sheets is the internal error. Each sample is measured ten times (in a succession of reference gas, sample gas, reference gas, sample gas etc.). The internal error is the SD of the ten measurements of the sample gas. If the sample size is very" small then the internal error will be increased. The external error (also called the analytical error) measures how accurately carbonate standards can be reproduced (by comparison of the resulting values which base each on ten internal measurements). Different carbonates are used as standards and measured regularly each day in the lab and results checked for performance of the mass spec, but generally not sent to the customers. For a sample > 15 µg the external error is better than 0.04 per mil (13C) and 0.06 per mil (18O). For smaller sizes the error is higher, going up to 0.2 per mil for < 8 µg. However, these small sample sizes are signed with warnings in the data sheets. For the earliest sample batch of Nps two morphotypes were run separately; Nps quadrate form (Npsq) and Nps normal form (Npsn). Sample depth is shown on both original depth scale (cm*) and void corrected depth scale (cm). For depths with multiple measurements an average was used for data analysis, the average is not shown in this Appendix, only the separate original values.
