Selection of chitin degrading bacterial communities starting from natural marine environments

This project aimed to characterize bacterial communities from three natural marine environments: a marine sponge (Hymeniacidon perlevis) and its surrounding sediment and seawater. Starting from the bacterial communities from these environments, bacterial communities efficient at degrading chitin were selected in media containing chitin as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen.
