Het pand Koningstraat 87 werd omstreeks 1860 gebouwd op de plaats van de tuin van de kort daarvoor gesloopte Sint Nicolaaskerk. Aanvankelijk als winkel met bovenwoning, maar al in de negentiende eeuw werd een café in het pand gevestigd.
