Gender Publication Gap

DOI

Based on extensive empirical research we find that women do not behave differently concerning academic publications than often suggested in the literature. Once an economics manuscript is written, publication pressure arises, and decisions need to be made on where to submit, which requirements to fulfil, and when to give up on a manuscript. We investigate gender differences in these aspects for scholars in Economics and Business Studies in German-speaking regions (of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland). These results may assist decision-making in universities to deal with the underrepresentation of women in academia, especially in professorships.
