Networks of German Protestant Theology, 1820-1870

DOI

In the NWO-funded (Promotiebeurs voor leraren 2018-II) research-project ‘Nations and the Life of Mind: Protestant Discourses on the Nation (Prussia, 1820-1870)’ activities of German-speaking academic theologians on the state-level and on the national level were studied by means of social network analysis. For this aim, a comprehensive database has been developed which included the employees of German-speaking theological faculties, institutions of church administration and a selection of Protestant associations and theological journals. In my research project, the database has primarily been employed to study patterns of communication and participation of academic theologians. In addition, the database is helpful for studying patterns of institutionalisation in German protestant religious and theological networks.
