This data set contains daily files of air temperature profiles derived from combined measurements of the low- and high-frequency microwave radiometers HATPRO (Humidity And Temperature PROfiler, Rose et al., 2005) and MiRAC-P (Microwave Radar/Radiometer for Arctic Clouds - Passive, Mech et al., 2019) on Polarstern cruise PS149. The data set covers the date range from 4 July to 29 August 2025 and is limited to the troposphere (0-8000 m height above the instrument). The temperature profile retrieval is based on a Neural Network whose configuration and training is described in Walbröl et al. (2024). Temperature profiles are retrieved from zenith (both HATPRO and MiRAC-P) and boundary layer scan (HATPRO only) observations. The observations from the boundary layer scan improve the vertical resolution for the temperature profiles in the lower troposphere. The vertical resolution of the temperature profiles is on the order of hundreds of metres to kilometres, resolving 2-4 independent height levels of temperature (Löhnert et al., 2009). In each file, we provide temperature profiles from 1) zenith measurements only, 2) boundary layer scans only and 3) merging the retrieved zenith-only and boundary-layer scan-only temperature profiles (more information in Bühler et al., 2026 (in prep)).
Each netCDF file contains temperature profiles derived from HATPRO and MiRAC-P operated onboard Polarstern during cruise PS149. Each file further contains meta data about the position (latitude, longitude, height above mean sea level), and the quality of the derived temperature profiles.
