Novel state of matter in the site-ordered double perovskites Ba2YWO6

DOI

In solids, spins and orbitals are usually not coupled to each other. This may be not true any more in the rocksalt ordered double perovskites having spin-orbit coupling. Possibly, spin-orbital entangled liquid may be realized in this class of materials. We explore this possibility in Ba2YWO6 (Fm‐3m) with localized W5+ (5d1) electrons. By measuring low-energy excitations using inelastic neutron scattering, we prove/disprove the emergence of entangled liquid-like state of matter.
