The study tries to ascertain the effects of a new law (Law Terwee), that helps police to negotiate settlement of damage claims between victim and crime suspect. Two independent measurements before and after introduction assess general information on suspect, committed crime, process of settling damage and outcome. Topics include: suspect aware of new law / suspect's appreciation of Law Terwee / suspect being approached for a damage settlement, and if so whether fair or not and expected effect on verdict. Background variables: basic characteristics/ household characteristics/ occupation/employment/ income/capital assets/ education
