RF decoupling of the F-mu-F state

DOI

NMR has become an extremely sophisticated experimental technique because of the use of pulse sequences which allow the control and manipulation of a nuclear spin system or different spin populations. muSR has only recently begun to exploit these techniques and a facility such as ISIS is the right place to pioneer applications of such ideas. This experiment is designed to apply the well known RF decoupling method to one of the best defined of all muon-implanted systems, the F-mu-F state. Our initial experiment successfully demonstrated an effect of the decoupling field on the F-mu dipoled coupled states in PTFE. It is clear, however, that further work is required before the technique can be applied in unfamiliar contexts. Here we propose to repeat the experiment on NaF which has a static and highly linear F-mu-F state that may be easily modelled.
