Both BiFeO3 and KNbO3 are technologically important materials. BiFeO3 exhibs room temperature magnetic and ferroelectric ordering whilst KNbO3 is a lead free ferroelectric. Despite extensive research into the individual materials very little has been reported on the solid solution between the two. We have synthesised materials within this solid solution and our results indicate that single phase materials can be prepared over the whole compositional range. Furthermore, we have prepared the material KBiNbFeO6 which exhibits the potential to be doubly ordered (both A- and B-site ordered) - a relatively rare phenomenon. We propose to investigate the compositional driven phase transitions in this solid solution using PND with the aim of elucidating the structural properties of this system. Furthemore, we propose to investigate the variable temperature transitions in the KBiNbFeO6 material.
