We propose to measure the one- and multi-magnon excitations in the first realization of a S=1/2 quantum spin ladder in the strong-leg regime. Our material, DIMPY, has very well suited energy scales. In the strong-leg coupling regime, multi-magnon continua are thought to be strongly enhanced. Due to the simple crystallographic structure, the odd- and even-number of magnon excitations can be measured in different regions in reciprocal space. We plan to measure these excitations systematically, with high resolution and compare them with state-of-the-art numerical calculations. Preliminary neutron scattering experiments have been performed at TASP (PSI) with a completely deuterated crystal. We could easily follow the one-magnon dispersion until the zone boundary. The LET spectrometer has well suited energy range and resolution for this experiment. Therefore, we apply for 8 days of beam time.
