Physics-based Simulations of 3D Wave Propagation with Source Variability: HEMEW^S-3D

The HEMEW^S-3D database contains 30,000 simulation results of the 3D elastic wave equation. This equation governs the propagation of waves in a 3D propagation medium. Elastic waves originate from a deep source with random location and random orientation. Three types of data are given in this database: a materials dataset, source properties, and a velocity dataset.

The major difference between the HEMEW^S-3D database and the previous version HEMEW-3D is the source. It was fixed in the first version while in the current version, both its position and orientation vary.

Each material describes the propagation domain used for one numerical simulation. It is built from non-stationary random fields and corresponds to the velocity of shear waves. All materials are 3D arrays of shape 32 x 32 x 32.

A different source is used for each simulation. It is described by its coordinates and the three angles that parametrize its moment tensor.

The velocity dataset contains the velocity wavefields simulated at the surface of each propagation domain. Each velocity field has 3 spatial components and 800 time steps (between 0 and 8s).
