RedAnDA monthly reanalyses (1930-2001) of temperature and salinity in the upper 500 meters of the tropical Pacific (20S-20N), together with validation files

RedAnDA TS, UnivarS and UnivarT are the different configurations of RedAnDA, a  statistical in situ analysis method applied to temperature-salinity (coupled), salinity, and temperature monthly reconstructions in the tropical Pacific, respectively. RedAnDA is predicated on the method termed ''Reduced Space Analog Analysis'' described in Oulhen et al. (2024). This innovative method based on "analog" forecasting, allows for the reconstruction of past regional ocean states, leveraging sparse in situ data using the Argo period (well sampled) as the learning period. RedAnDA TS is the reference in situ temperature and salinity product covering a period of  71 years from 1930 to 2001. The specificity of RedAnDA T/S is the T/S coupling to leverage the sparser salinity data in the past. This approach uses bivariate 3D EOFs with density weighting, while the univariate version utilizes simple 3D EOFs to interpolate T or S. In RedAnDA, the system state is described by a reduced set of EOFs, akin to the reduced-space interpolation. It also employs an Ensemble Kalman Smoother scheme associated with the statistical model Analog method. ISAS20 (an objective analysis of Argo data, spanning from 2002 to 2020, DOI:10.17882/52367) is used to estimate the spatial covariability between ocean temperature and salinity and provide the EOFs. The Analog method uses a reference dataset (catalog) represented by ISAS20. This method propagates the information from the future to the past with a time step of one month. The focus of these analyses is to enhance the interannual variability in the tropical Pacific, which is represented by the deviation from the 2002-2020 monthly climatology. RedAnDA assimilates historical in situ measurements from by all types of instruments, provided by the quality-controlled EN.4.2.2 dataset.
