Crystal and magnetic structure of new 2D honeycomb iridates

DOI

2D honeycomb iridates recently emerged as a possible platform for new class of spin liquid, the Kitaev spin liquid. The candidate materials A2IrO3 (A = Li, Na) in fact undergo magnetic ordering at low temperatures. The observed magnetic structures, zigzag type for Na2IrO3 and a spiral order for Li2IrO3, are different from the original theoretical prediction, and lots of theoretical proposals for the origin of observed magnetic structure have been proposed but are still controversial. One of the reasons for this unsettled situation is shortage of real materials; to date only two A2IrO3 have been studied. We propose to analyse crystal and magnetic structures of new honeycomb iridates, Ag3LiIr2O6 and ZnIrO3, which should help in understanding the key ingredient for the magnetism of honeycomb iridates.
