In-situ Meteorological and Sea Level Dataset from Coastal Station Parnu in the Eastern Baltic Coast during 2000 – 2025

DOI

This dataset provides in-situ high-frequency meteorological and sea level observations collected from 19 coastal stations located along the Estonian coastline bordering the Baltic Sea. The dataset spans approximately 25 years, from early 2000 to end of 2025, with continuous observations recorded at 10-minute intervals, offering a detailed record suitable for analyses on timescales from minutes to decades. The measured parameters include wind direction, wind speed, wind gust, air temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and sea level. Sea level measurements are referenced to the Estonian national height system EH2000, which is based on the European Vertical Reference System (EVRS) and provides a consistent geodetic reference for height and sea level data. Data were collected as part of routine operational measurements conducted by Estonian coastal stations, primarily utilizing VAISALA sensors. The initial purpose was operational monitoring and forecasting. This dataset is now compiled to support research on regional climate variability, sea level dynamics, and coastal meteorological processes, as well as to inform port operations and coastal infrastructure management, serving as a valuable resource for improving climate modeling and adaptation strategies. The datasets have been processed and flagged according to quality control (QC) procedure, including range checks, consistency tests, and detection of anomalies or sensor malfunctions. Each observation is assigned a quality flag that indicates the reliability of the measurement. The datasets are provided in netCDF format, ensuring compatibility with common data processing tools.
