Dynamics of water protons at low temperature and high pressure

DOI

We have recently performed a DINS experiment on water at 268 K, at pressures ranging from 25.6 MPa to 400 MPa. These data show that the mean kinetic energy of protons exhibits an anomalous behaviour, reminiscent of the anomalous behaviour of the self diffusion coefficient of water. In particular at pressures close to the maximum of the diffusion coefficient, the n(p) function shows a secondary shoulder, suggesting proton coherence along the H-bond. Here we poropose to investigate in better detail the pressure region of the maximum diffusivity, by performing a DINS experiment on water at 200 MPa at temperatures ranging from ambient to 250 K, where the anomaly of the diffusion coefficient becomes even more evident.
