It has recently been proposed that Ba2YMoO6 is the first example of an exotic valence bond glass (VBG), which is characterized by an amorphous arrangement of spin dimers and absence of magnetic ordering. We have now synthesised Ba2PrMoO6 and magnetic susceptibility measurements show no evidence of an antiferromagnetic transition down to 2 K, although a broad hump is observed at 30 K. The inverse susceptibility is remarkably similar to that recorded for Ba2YMoO6 which suggests that Ba2PrMoO6 is also a VBG. This is intriguing given that the same VBG state is not observed for Ba2LnMoO6 (Ln = Nd-Tb). We request time on the MUSR spectrometer to study the temperature dependence of the spin dynamics and to verify that the broad anomaly in the susceptibility 30 K is not a result of short range or low dimensional magnetic order.
